Berrion Berry from Fix Your Flo
| Helllooo Gorgeous!!! I’m gonna be honest. I fell it love with your pink feed, those abs and that infectious smile of yours. Go ahead and introduce yourself to everyone: |
Hello everyone! I’m Berrion Berry, but all my friends call me Berri and so that means you can too! I’m a menstrual health educator, nutritionist, and coach and I teach women how to have pain free periods, period.
| Tell us all about why you chose to focus on menstrual health?! |
I chose to focus on menstrual health, because as I looked at my own health and wellness journey, it’s the one place I felt like I could truly improve and be better. When I started working in the menstrual health space back in January of 2019, I noticed a huge gap in the industry or better yet a white space. For some reason, no one was really talking about periods, and certainly no one who looked like me or had my energy. I love to say menstrual health found me.
| What would be your top tips to embracing the power of our periods?! |
Oh love this question! My top tips really come down to building a know, like, and trust factor with your body. It’s funny, we know how important it is to have that factor in our businesses, but people fail to realize that it applies to our bodies as well. Know the phases of your cycle, like your body in all it’s form, and trust that it is supporting you, I mean that’s why we have thyroid gland and endocrine system in the first place.
| Birth control, tracking… simplify it for all those new on the scene? |
When it comes to birth control, myself and my clients all do something called the fertility awareness method. This boils down to three things, but I have to warn you, you can’t be lazy with this at all, you have to be intentional and take the time to know your flo. I always say days 12-22 of your cycle, you really need to be careful if you are sexually active, because that’s a window in which you can get pregnant. Now, let’s chat FAM (fertility awareness method). First, measure your BBT (basal body temperature). When it’s at its highest you’re more than likely ovulating, but just to be sure, you want to do step two which is Check Your Panties, for cervical mucus/fluid. This is hard to explain without a visual, but essentially the more opaque and thick it is, the more fertile you are. The more translucent and thin it is, the less fertile you are. See the diagram from @Nicolejardim below, it’s a great visual.
The last step is to check cervical placement, and honestly I’ll let you google that on your own.
| What’s in your bag!? |
I’m the worst, I don’t carry a bag lol I love to be hands free. For the most part, I always have my phone, my wallet, and a few business cards and that’s literally it lol, so boring!
| I’m a foodie and abnormally curious about what others eat… give us your favorite meal? |
My favorite meal is a nourish bowl, but it needs to be spicy & sweet. My base is usually a wild, basmati rice medley, with honey roasted sweet potatoes, dark leafy greens, and any protein I’m feeling. I usually go for a bean, but recently my body is not a fan of that, so I switch between a teriyaki tofu or smoked salmon. Oh and it’s always accompanied with a kombucha from 221 kombucha bc (usually lemon chlorophyll) or a watermelon la croix.
|| Beauty tip that we MUST know about? | Less is more. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good skincare routine, but honestly, cold water, with a gentle cleanser (I use a Gel Cleanser from Honest Beauty) and a nice moisturizer will do the trick. Also, for any ladies who aren’t using clean beauty, just start! Toxins in makeup and skincare, are disrupting your hormones and we don’t need that.
| You know me, I’m all about the supplements! What are your favorites and why?!
Okay so I used to love soooo many, but right now I have 3 I swear by.
First, Ovamoon, it’s the best for menstrual health and hormone balancing. After analyzing the ingredients, I found out that it could replace most things in my supplement cabinet, so I’ve been obsessed with it and highly recommend it.
Second, I love Semaine Health for any ladies with really painful periods. It’s my go to, think about midol or pamprin, but 100% natural. Oh and if you order it, use BERRISEMAINE, and get 40% off. Again, the ingredients for this product are to die for, especially for people like us who love supplements.
Finally, Vitex Elixir from Gaia Herbs. It’s the one thing I feel like every woman should have and should start taking it about 10 days before her period starts. It eases so much menstrual discomfort and helps to balance hormones.
| Give us all your links so we can stalk the ish out of you! |
My favorite places to hang out:
Instagram - I love to say it’s like getting a handshake from me. I love my community over there and it’s our first introduction tbh.
Podcast - I like to think of this as the first coffee date we go on. I dish all the goods and talk about the juicy stuff that IG stories limit.
Website - I like to think of this place as your final stop. This is where you apply to work with me 1-on-1 and really get the healing you need for your period.
Thank you for coming on the Chanelle Cozette blog. I look forward to implementing your power periods strategy on linking up how I work with my cycle. You my dear are an incredible educator.
Xo,
Chanelle
